Speech/ Language

Mrs. Parmley, Speech and Language

I grew up in Union, Maine where my family roots run deep. My ancestors, the Robins family, actually founded the town over 200 years ago! My mother often says that I started talking at an early age and I have never stopped. The field of Speech and Language was a natural choice of a career for me, of course. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Communication Disorders from The University of New Hampshire, which is where I also completed most of my graduate level studies. While at the university, I also minored in Cultural Anthropology and continue to be fascinated by other cultures and ways of life throughout history and around the world. I have fourteen years’ experience in the field of Speech and Language and have had the pleasure of being the Speech and Language Clinician at the Gilford Butler School for nine years. I enjoy working closely with the families and staff within this small school community to help every student at Gilford Butler realize their full learning potential. In my free time, I am a very busy wife and mother. I live in Washington with my husband, son, and daughter, as well as our cranky but lovable cats, Pong and Tiger. I also enjoy gardening, hiking, and reading whenever I get the chance!
