Education Technician, Jeanne Spearin

Ms.Spearin, Educational Technician

Having grown up in Lincolnville, I've always thought of Maine as a great place to live. From a young age I loved working with children. After high school I went to Bob Jones University in South Carolina where I got my B.S. Degree in Elementary Education.  I began to teach right away in private Christian schools in South Carolina and then around the State of Maine. I enjoyed these years of teaching very much. After 24 years of teaching I took a job as a church secretary and also worked with the elderly in home health care and hospice situations. I dabble in property management and summer rentals. Several years ago I took a job working with the Life Skills classroom at Thomaston Grammar School as an Ed Tech were I learned a lot about how to help children with many different learning challenges. Just before school started this year, I was asked to fill a vacant position at Gilford Butler.  I work 1/2 day in the resource room and the other 1/2 of the day in regular ed. I have really enjoyed working with the younger children again and every day they make me laugh at the funny things they say. They are amazing and refreshing.

Outside of work I spend a lot of time with my six siblings and their families. Several of them live in other countries and states but we try to spend as much time as possible together in the summer. We love to canoe, kayak and hike together and spend many evenings singing and playing instruments as a family. I also spend a lot of time with my church family.  I look forward to a great year at Gilford Butler and already appreciate the great staff and wonderful children.
